Website design and development

A proven process that works

Five Steps to the Website Design Process

Creating a website that engages customers and aligns with their needs and business goals requires a thoughtful and structured process.

By following these steps, we ensure that the website not only meets the client's business objectives but also provides a seamless and engaging user experience.

Here are the five key steps:

1. Discovery and Research

  • Understand the client's business and target audience: Conduct meetings to listen to the client's needs, goals, and challenges, and address their concerns.
  • Research: Client's industry, competitors, and target audience.
  • Define project objectives: Establish the primary goals for the website (e.g., lead generation, e-commerce, brand awareness, etc.).
  • Gather content and brand guidelines: Collect all necessary assets, including logos, color schemes, and existing content.

2. Strategy and Planning

  • Create a sitemap and user journey map: Outline the website's structure and the flow of user interactions.
  • Set clear priorities: Identify the most essential features and functionalities for the site.
  • Plan for scalability: Ensure the design and development can grow with the client's business.

3. Design

  • Focus on user-centric design: Build wireframes or mockups to visualize the layout and structure.
  • Prioritize: Simplicity, usability, and accessibility for the target audience.
  • Reflect the client's brand: Incorporate the brand's identity, including its colors, fonts, and tone, into the design.
  • Collaborate with the client: Regularly review designs with the client and gather feedback.

4. Development

  • Turn designs into a functional website: Use coding languages or platforms to develop the website (e.g., HTML, CSS,
  • JavaScript, or CMS like WordPress).
  • Ensure responsive design: Optimize the website for all devices, including desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Test functionality: Check for errors, broken links, and bugs to ensure a smooth user experience.

5. Launch and Ongoing Support

  • Pre-launch: Harden the website security and install anti-bot/spam tools and monitoring as appropriate.
  • Deploy the website: Launch the site after thorough testing and client approval.
  • Monitor and gather feedback: Track user behavior and gather insights for future improvements.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance: Update the website regularly to ensure it remains secure, relevant, and optimized.

We listen to your requirements

We are focused on listening to your needs

What are the top reported issues for a business website when it comes to design and development?

Based on comprehensive reviews of recent research, surveys, case studies, and expert analyses, the top most frequently cited issues of business owners regarding their online presence, in order of concern, are as follows; and yes, the order of some of these issues/concerns took us slightly by surprise also.

PS. If you recognise any of these concerns or issue, maybe you should definitely consider talking with us.  We offer a FREE, no commitment, review of your existing website or online needs (if you currently don't have a website).

Customer focused

Slow loading times are consistently cited as a major frustration. Over half of mobile users will abandon a site if it takes more than three seconds to load, and this impatience can translate into a significant financial loss, estimated to globally cause billions in lost revenue annually.

Site speed also directly impacts search engine rankings and user satisfaction, making it a crucial area for improvement.

With over 60% of global web traffic now being generated from mobile devices, poor mobile optimization is a critical issue. Business owners report that non-responsive sites not only lead to lower search rankings and poor user experiences but also directly result in lost customers.

Google’s mobile-first indexing further raises the stakes for mobile optimization, making it an urgent area for improvement.

Security concerns, including vulnerability to hacking, data breaches, and compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA, are top of mind.

The cost and reputational damage of security breaches, as well as the complexity of maintaining compliance standards, are significant pain points, especially for small to medium businesses (SMBs).

Business owners frequently struggle with managing and updating website content. Issues include data overload, lack of a coherent content strategy, outdated content, and challenges coordinating multiple contributors. Siloed data and integration issues with content management systems (CMS) are also common.

Downtime, server errors, and technical glitches are significant concerns. These issues can lead to lost revenue, damage to reputation, and customer frustration. Problems with email, domain management, and database reliability are also frequently reported.

Poor UX, including cluttered interfaces, confusing navigation, and excessive pop-ups, is a common complaint. These issues can lead to high bounce rates, low conversions, and negative perceptions of the business.

Simplifying navigation and improving design consistency are often cited as needed improvements.

Keeping up with frequent search engine algorithm changes, targeting the right keywords, ensuring content quality, and acquiring back-links are ongoing struggles. Many business owners also find it challenging to monitor and analyze SEO performance effectively.

Integrating websites with other business tools (e.g., CRM, ERP, marketing automation) is often complex and fraught with compatibility, data quality, and security issues. Lack of skilled personnel and the need for custom development further complicate integration efforts.  Not all businesses need this side of the business to be linked to their website, and advice on when it is right or wrong to do so is also extremely helpful to SMBs.

The cost of website development, ongoing maintenance, and upgrades is a significant concern, especially for small to medium sized businesses. Business owners worry about hidden costs, budget overruns, and whether their investment will yield a positive return. Measuring ROI and justifying ongoing expenses are persistent challenges.

Rapid changes in web technology, design trends, and user expectations make it difficult for business owners to keep their websites current. This includes adapting to new devices, accessibility standards, and emerging features like voice search or AI-driven content.

As your businesses grows, scaling your website infrastructure without incurring excessive costs can be a challenge.  Hosting service providers should be able to offer a simple upgrade path for all services.

Ensuring websites are usable by people with disabilities is increasingly important but often overlooked.  This isn't a difficult process to include, but the time required or the awareness of this requirement often results in no accessibility considerations at all.  Your customers come from all walks of like and face different challenges, why would you discount their business?

Complicated checkout processes and poor conversion optimization are frequent pain points for online retailers.  Placing hurdles in front of potential customers makes no business sense.

Guess what!

Enrapture Media already consider these top 13 points, plus more, as part of our website development and hosting process.

If you have similar concerns about either your future or current website, then don't hesitate to ask why we believe that we can consistently offer you the right solutions.

FAQ

Got questions?  Hopefully we have been able to answer some of the more common questions a web developer hears, but feel free to contact us at any time for more information or to simply answer a query you may have.

Tailored website solutions to meet your unique goals

Every business is unique, so we tailor our websites to solve your specific challenges — whether that’s generating more leads, improving online sales, or building brand credibility. In the vast majority of cases, we feel confident in saying that a new website or SEO review will help your website and in turn help your business, but we will also be realistic and tell you if we think it won't, as meeting your expectations is always a primary factor in all we do.

We’d love to learn more about your goals so we can propose a solution that shows how it can directly support your business growth.

Flexible plans with no long-term commitments

We offer flexible plans with no long-term commitments because we believe in earning your business every day.As a rule of thumb:

  • Domain registrations are always for a minimum of 12 months. (There is no way around that one.)
  • Website hosting fees are available on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, with discounts linked to the length of the hosting period.
  • We don't charge any licensing fees, above and beyond any optional third-party services you may have chosen to include in your website.  Your website is yours from the day it goes live, as per our contract.

You can choose the level of service that fits your needs. If your situation changes, we’re happy to adjust accordingly.

Our focus is on building a partnership based on trust and results.

Yes, you can manage your own website once it is built and made live.

All of our websites are built with user-friendly content management systems (CMS) that allow you to manage your own content, create new pages, change images, etc.

We are always here to support you should you need it, as we appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to focus on your business and manage your website, and manage your marketing and sales, etc.

If you want us just to manage things like security updates, we offer a number of simple packages to allow you to budget for work on a monthly basis.  You can cancel maintenance packages at any time, allowing only one-months' notice.

Flexible website solutions that fit your current needs

'No' is the simple answer, you don't always need to have a multi-page website.  In fact, a good single-page website will nearly always be an improvement on a poor quality multi-page website with poor SEO, etc.

We often see some small start-up businesses opt for a single page website to get themselves online and immediately improve their chances of channeling potential customers to their business.  This ensures that people can find you online when they  specifically searching for your business, as many potential customers want to see who you are first.

There are search engine performance implications, when it comes to searches for more generic terms in your industry, but we appreciate that it often requires small steps in the beginning. We would always recommend a multi-page website in the long run, as it gives your website more authority, tells potential customers more about you, and improves your natural search engine ranking in quite an impactful manner.

Our aim is to get you noticed online and help you gain trust in your marketplace.

Flexible website solutions that fit your budget

We completely understand that the budget is a key consideration. Whilst many of our clients have found that investing in a well-designed website helps attract more customers and increase sales, having a budget is still a sensible and important business consideration.

To help mitigate this, we also offer flexible payment plans and/or scalable options so you can start small and grow your site as your business grows.

We’d love to share how we can create a website that maximizes your return on investment without stretching your budget.

Yes, our US-based hosting service comes with built-in website builders to allow you to build and manage your own website.  We also offer a portal interface to allow you access to your hosting, domains and invoices all in one place.

We also support third-party website developers, if you already have a strong relationship with a website builder, but need professional hosting that is all under your control, regardless of who is building your website. Our portal supports multiple user accesses, with optional limited access available to third-party developers, where you may want to hide access to your invoices for example.

Already have a website that you need help managing?  Our support team are always happy to help take the strain on your behalf, and we are not 'precious', our support service is not only limited to websites we build.

Enhancing your current website for even better results

It’s great to hear you already have a website! That means you already recognize the importance of having an online presence. Many businesses discover that even minor updates can significantly improve performance, security, and user experience.

If you’re interested, We’d be happy to review your current site and share some ideas on how we can help you get even better results, often without a complete rebuild. On occasion, we may recommend no change at all if your website looks to be doing its job.

Over the last twelve years, we have found a lot of success working closely with other third-party service providers, i.e. other web designers, SEO and marketing support teams, as this shows the client that we trustworthy and honest.  If you have a third-party service provider you wish to maintain a relationship with, but have us assist in your project, we are always happy work closely with them.
